CHOOSING A DENTIST There are several important factors for choosing a dentist. We believe that the most important one is that you feel comfortable and confident with the Dentist and the practice. However, we understand that decisions are often made based on insurance acceptance, which is why we diligently try to work with as many insurance carriers as possible so you can choose a Dentist that you will be happy with and with whom you can develop a long-lasting dental relationship. We understand that your search can be daunting so we are here to help. We welcome you to call and speak with our Patient Liaison.
While we submit electronic claims to insurance carriers as a courtesy to our patients, it is very important to remember that your insurance plan is an agreement between you and your carrier.
IN NETWORK VS. OUT OF NETWORK PROVIDERS Typically you have a choice to use an in-network or out of network dentist; sometimes you may hear the term "Preferred Provider" to describe an in network dentist. If you choose an in network dentist from your plan, the out of pocket expenses for services are set by your plan. However, if you choose an out of network dentist, the out of pocket expenses for services can be higher.
EMPLOYER-SPONSORED OR INDIVIDUAL PLAN Another consideration is whether your plan is a commercial plan through an employer or a commercial plan that you purchased as an individual. Our experience is that, because of negotiating power, employers are able to contract with insurance carriers and often the premiums are lower and the coverage is better. Better coverage usually means lower out of pocket expenses for services. For plans that you purchased as an individual directly from an insurance carrier, the services covered by the plan may be limited and the out of pocket expenses can be the maximum allowed.
DISCOUNT DENTAL CARDS Nowadays, there are several discount dental cards available through non-insurance carriers and even a few through insurance carriers. These are not insurance plans and there are no claims to submit. You are completely responsible for paying for all services. While the cost to enroll in these discount plans vary, the real difference is your cost for services and whether you can find a dentist in your area who will accept your discount plan.
MILITARY-SPONSORED PLANS We are proud to support our military men and women and their families. Most military plans are through United Concordia Tricare. If currently in active duty status, the member and his/her family are suppose to have dental services “on base” or request a Tricare control number for each visit to a civilian dental practice.
